Starving Artist

Journal Entry: Thu Sep 20, 2012, 7:15 PM
Gallery l Bluecanvas l Watch Me l Note Me

Morning and evening
Maids heard the goblins cry:
"Come buy our orchard fruits,
Come buy, come buy..."

Christina Rossetti, Goblin Market

----------

Ah, it's been a such a long, long time since I last prefaced a journal entry with a quotation. Does anyone remember those days? Are there even any watchers remaining from then?

I shall come to the point directly. I'm afraid to report that I am presently in dire financial straits. I have almost nothing to live on and am overdrawn on the bank by a sum which will leave me in anticipation of yet more debt in the coming months once it is paid off.

If I could appeal to anyone's generosity in visiting my print shop and making what little purchase you can from it, I shall thank you humbly and gratefully for your support. I know the selection is poor, but I hope there might be something that might suit you. Cards, mugs and magnets are also available on most of the images as alternatives to prints.

My Redbubble store has a similar selection, in case anyone prefers making a purchase from there instead. Though I should like to point out that I have set my cut here on dA a little higher, as the base prices are lower (you won't be making a greater loss thereby).

Alternatively, you may prefer to show your support by purchasing some of my available books, three of which HouseofChabrier has so kindly reviewed over on Amazon. For the moment, print earnings will be of more immediate aid, but I am truly grateful in the longer term if you do indeed choose the books. They are, of course, the real heart of my output and profession.

Thank you so much.

N.

ETA: Prints of two illustrations from Myths and Legends of Russia are also available from my agent's website: The Frog Princess and Right and Wrong. Plus a selection of prints from some of my Folio Society books which have not been enabled here are available from their website.

Thank you

Thank You... by jennyleigh:: Liek thanks you :: by Liek
Thank you so much to new watchers, to everyone for all your favourites, for your continued interest, and quite simply for your general tolerance.

I am not always able to reply to every comment and have had to choose not to thank everyone individually for favourites and watches, for which I do apologise. Please be assured, however, that I appreciate them all very much.

Wish I could help Squire, but on a pension it's a bit hard. A thought though. Do you have enough work to put on an exhibition? If so, let me know, I'll note you my details.

Not to worry at all. I understand. I don't think I can manage an exhibition at the moment. I'm still busy in spite of having no cash (in between projects and exhausted balance). But it's something to think about one day.

(I'll reply to your note shortly. ^_^)

Dear Natee,
We are currently on very hard times too (my husband is still without work), but I allowed myself to advertise your books among my friends and among the contacts I have on Facebook. I know, it's not much, but I hope it helps. :-(

I am thinking of you. *gentle hugs*

I do indeed have work lined up and am still busy as we speak. I just don't have any cash as I'm in between projects and am taking so long with the current one. ^^; I'll explain further later.

aah, I am one of you. Totally starving artist.. :/
But I just wanted to say I felt "helped" in just reading your humble post and the warm and supporting replies.. Gave me hope that people do care about art and the burning souls that bleed to bring it forth..
All my best wishes for you and all who dare to walk this path. ;)

Ordered a mug for my little brother's birthday present. :)
I so wish I get hold of some folio editions of Jane Austen...they aren't quite within my budget right now, though...:(

I would love to buy original art from you but probably just very small one. Will you have something like that ever?

So. There. Finally been able to decide. In a few days, I should hopefully have pretty mug for my office (finally! I needed pretty stuff for said office, and this was a great excuse). I'll keep it guarded at all time so that my colleagues don't steal it.

It's not much, but it's a start. I guess there are copyright issues keeping you from submitting some more of your wonderful silhouette pictures as prints? I'd love to have some of them for Christmas cards.

I hope your financial skies clear eventually.

Oh no!!!! :noes: This is such a pity, but I know it happens to all of us now and again. (Happened to me earlier this year, in fact.) But if everyone pitches in, even if it's small, we can help!

Me, I'm going to see if I can get my other credit card (or see if I've still enough in paypal for everything I owe people) to work with dA, and I'll go running through your print shop here. I'd love to commission you directly for something small, though I'm aware you likely have more than enough on your plate. :)

I've been meaning to get something from you for ages now. Seems like this is the perfect time! Take care, Niroot. :aww:

Bought a mug with Tricyclotops on it. There is no room in our house for prints. Did you come to the NHM thing? If you did, you didn't say hello (coulda got you in for free, if you'd wanted to come along).

Thank you so much, John.

Sadly, I couldn't make it to either the NHM evening or the FP signing, to my extremely sore disappointment. Funds and time didn't allow (I didn't know you could have got me in free!). I left a comment on Darren's album from the events on FB.

I'm sorry, I couldn't buy much, but I choose the Triceratop on the tricycle (so cute !).

I wish you the best. You're a very talented artist.

I am still trying to decide on a print (they are all so good!), but in the meantime, I have been spreading the word on Twitter, and on Google Plus (I have a larger potential audience there than on Twitter). In fact, I was just speaking to my parents on Skype and my father said he saw my post on G+ and found the Triceratops on a Tricycle quite charming and will buy a print of that (at least) - so at least that's one customer!

Dear Niroot, I am so sorry to learn of your troubles! (I have been trying to avoid spending time on DA, and I'm afraid I have entirely neglected my watch list in the last year or so... It was altogether by chance that I stumbled upon your journal last night!) You do not deserve such ill fortune. I wish there was something I could do to help... I did buy a few of your prints last night. But then I looked up how much of the cost actually goes to the artist, and - it's so meagre! Most of the money went to DA, not to you! Now if there was a way to buy a drawing, directly from you, I TOTALLY WOULD. Even just a doodle or a sketch. I'd pay for international mailing costs. I adore your style of art, you are decidedly among my favourite artists.

In any case... may the sun shine for you yet. I wish you the best. Please, do not despair.

Dear Niroot, I just got myself a print of my favourite, your self portrait, and I wrote about you in my journal [link] I hope I could do more but I'm not in the best position with money myself and the shipping costs kill me.

Currently trying to decide whether I trust the mail with coffee mugs - I've been short of one that is distinctly mine at work for ages - or if I should settle for something that is easier to post. And get through customs unharmed, if it's shipped from across the Atlantic!

I've ordered mugs online before, and they always come tightly-packed in styrofoam or some other robust packing material. Never had one arrived damaged; I think you're safe. :)
