So, How Many of You were Guilty...?

Journal Entry: Mon May 14, 2012, 3:17 AM
LiveJournal l Gallery l Bluecanvas l Watch Me l Note Me

...Of failing to notice the request in this description?

Knowing how often artists' comments are overlooked, I tried to circumvent the error further by putting the request directly in the title itself. And yet... :XD:

I can only surmise that some of you had perhaps deliberately chosen to favourite it all the same out of a sense of loyalty (really? =P). In which case I can only thank you for the display, and for knowing that I could possibly ever inspire such feelings. For the others, well, I have a choice of simply remaining mystified, or charging you with... What shall I call it? A momentary stupor, let us say. It is a more delicate 's' word to use on the occasion.

(Please bear in mind that my tongue is firmly in my cheek. ;))

If, however, I could persuade any of you who made the mistake to very kindly pay the same attention to the original deviation (which, by the way, can be viewed larger than the ID piece, and which is pining after your misapplied favour ;)), then I shall be truly grateful.

For the deviant who kindly requested a print of this, a print has been made available -- on the original piece. :D

Thank you

Thank You... by jennyleigh:: Liek thanks you :: by Liek
Thank you so much to new watchers, to everyone for all your favourites, for your continued interest, and quite simply for your general tolerance.

I am not always able to reply to every comment (though I do try), and I have had to choose not to thank everyone individually for favourites and watches (but again, I try to acknowledge the latter as much as possible), for which I do beg your pardon. Please be assured, however, that I appreciate them very much.

Fave it? Heck, I submitted it for a Daily Deviation (in "Artistic Nudes", of course);)

Not me! I always read desriptions, in fact I find it really annoying when people just put ... in their description. What is that all about? I love reading how pieces of art are done and what the idea behind them was. I do think dA should make it possible to use any picture as an ID though. In protest of people that don't read, I will fave your journal instead!!

Thank you, Laura. Yes, I do think the fuss with uploading into the ID category first is irritating. We should just be able to select a piece. There is the option of uploading something directly from the computer to use as ID, but there is an enforced cropping on that, which is no good.

I just read comments bellow, and dbananza's comment is a good example of people who doesn't read or doesn't understand at all what the artist or other people says. Sadly you're right, is the kind of people who make you reconsider stay in DA :(

One can simply drag a thumb directly into a Favorites collection without ever opening the deviation at all. If so, the truncated title under your deviation would probably only have been "Wound ID." So, at least some of those who fav'ed your deviation may never have seen your additional instructions at all.

Someone on the Suggestions Forum asked that DA make it possible for the artist to turn off the Fave feature for an individual deviation when special circumstances arise (such as for this ID deviation). That might not be a bad idea.

And, no, since I'm one of those fanatics who reads everything, from the health information and ingredients on a box of cereal to the author's acknowledgements in a novel, I didn't mess up and Fave your ID picture ;)

When I saw how many people already faved the piece, I couldn't help being both amused and annoyed. I can see some people wanting to fave it anyway, and I know some people just go through and favorite a bunch of things without really looking (fave bombing). But then it always annoys me that people can't follow directions. :D Good to know you're taking it lightly though!

At first I thought you had re-uploaded it. :)
I noticed that a lot of people had faved it when I viewed it. Even with your request not to do so, included in the title! Just a reminder that a lot of people on dA don't read the artist's description...

I love reading the descriptions; learning about the materials an artist used, what the thoughts are behind an artwork, etc. and am always a little disappointed when some artists can only manage to type:

Since I had seen it before I read the comment.

"Is this the same person? Did they take down the other one and put it back up?"

The intrigue was so intense!

Or something.

From my experience as a moderator on a forum and organizing several events there, I've come to the conclusion that most people on the internet just don't seem to be able or willing to read. :/

I find on many an occasion, that folks don't read the "Artist's Comment" and also find that many don't even leave an 'artist's comment' on their own work.

I usually read the artist's comment because it tells me more about the piece at which I am looking: the size, media, artist's thoughts.
I sometimes receive questions about what I used to make an image though I have already stated it in my artist comment box.

I'm confused by your request, it makes it inconvenient to fav it. If i like something i like it.

I don't understand. It surely isn't inconvenient to visit the original deviation and favourite that? It had also existed a good while before this ID version. And I was only obliged to re-upload this because apparently one has to upload something to the ID category first to be able to use it as one.

It's a gesture to make us come towards you around an obstacle. It's obnoxious. I'd like to fav your pieces but DA games are for children, not professional artists. The most basic idea in marketing your art is to invite viewers, not to play coy little games.

I beg your pardon?

I have no interest in that kind of behaviour. I think you have missed the point entirely. I uploaded the piece to use as an ID, but included the request to favourite the original piece instead if someone wished. The fact that even the 'please favourite the original' stamps exist is some indication of how frequently such practices occur.

But even that is beside the point. My whole complaint actually comes down to the fact that few people take the time to read artists' description.

I haven't the time to either enter into an argument or explain. For someone who doesn't know me to make such an instant accusation and upon the first communication: that is obnoxious and objectionable. I can refer you to the others who have known me here long time as to whether such a description fits me even remotely.

I've no interest in pursuing a correspondence on this. If you seek to continue in the same manner and tone, I will simply block. As though I needed more reason to tire of dA.

Haha, I noticed that almost 90 people had already faved it by the time I saw it. I was pretty shocked. I mean. You specifically said not to fave it in the title.
I get the feeling that some people just fave everything made by artists that they like, and don't even pay attention to the title or the comments. It's really weird. @_@ Good to know you have a lot of fans though, eh?

Oh dear... I was one who faved it. I saw and knew there was a full version. I think I might have that one faved too... however I was a attracted to the cut of the picture which reminded me of painteds and screens or scrolls... oops. So count me guilty! Sorry dear! :(

I always try to pay attention to what the artist has to say because, I try to put a small bit of thought in my own descriptions and I appreciate when someone reads my poorly devised attempts at being clever.

Also, do not be afraid to use the other "S" word; there nothing wrong in calling people Silly, right?
lol

I think you should have written in the title also why are you asking this. Some people may fav it just because you are asking them not to, thinking it's a kind of game or something.

But yes, I think it highly probable that some people are doing it purposefully, not because they think it's a game, but just to be contrary. Because that's what the internet is for, after all... ;)
