Moleskine Art

Hands up, who loves the Moleskine range of sketchbooks?

I adore them. Some of the sketches I uploaded here were done in Moleskine books. For those who aren't familiar with these handsome, compact, versatile Italian-made sketchbooks and notebooks with their signature rounded corners, ribbon markers, oilcloth bindings and elastic cover bands, their official site:
[link] .
A reasonably good Wikipedia entry with general facts and other links:
[link] .
Alternatively, if you simply Google the name, you'll find a host of online retail outlets.

But what I wanted to post about was 'skine.art., a wonderful site in a blog-like manner which I discovered last evening, where artists who work in these distinctive books post their scanned images of whole spreads and pages, ranging from observational sketches to more imaginative renderings, all done with genuine consummate skill:
[link] .

I seem to find myself exclaiming 'beautiful!' like a wide-eyed groupie at each new offering. I've been inspired, impressed, humbled and even, frankly, put to shame (in a good way!). I thought I'd share. :)

__________

On an entirely seperate matter, I have a small but uncharacteristically forthright plea I'd like to make.

Please read the notes I write accompanying each piece of work.

I know that many of my DA friends already do - and I do thank you for your time and attention. But I've had a few rather peculiar questions in recent days whose answers I needn't have repeated if the questioners had been persuaded to read these notes. What, pray, did they suppose they were written for? :XD: I've even had the question 'did you draw that?' ..... To which I patiently replied - with, I hope, not the smallest shred of irony - 'If you saw something from my gallery, then yes...' ^^;

__________

Thank you so much to all recent watchers and favourite additions; and thank you for all your kind comments, as ever. I do truly appreciate them. I must confess I'm enjoying the quiet of the obscurity into which I've now relasped... Ah... :D (Not that I wasn't grateful, of course! ^^;)

Honestly, Moleskinnies make me giggle, because so many are so tiny yet so expensive. And, going to an art high school, it seemed like most of the pretentious, "i'm-so-artsy-it-hurts" people had their moleskinnies to do their "oh-so-artsy-avant-garde" work in, if you take my meaning.

....so of course, i bought one on sale. It amuses me so. ^ ^

Oh, gosh, is that so? :XD: Well, nothing is either pretentious or self-consciously avant garde on that site. Just seriously good work from artists who really can draw. :D

I do enjoy moleskines! For some reason, though, some seem to hold wet media pretty well, while others don't at all. My friend and I compared ours side by side with watercolor and had completely different results. Have you ever had that happen to you? Mine ended up being a disaster, so I turned it into a scrapbook of paint and pieces of paper and stubs from daily life, and that was a lot of fun :)

Ahaha, I still get comments like that sometimes. "Did you draw that?" "Did you write this?" It leaves me scratching my head. No matter how hard you try, some people just will-not-read-the-descriptions, hahaha.

Cheers!

yes, I love the look of moleskines skechbooks but I don't have one. I did get a perfectly good, cheap, imitation one though and I love it!
:iconreplicantangel:
That is a pretty cool site. MY sketchbooks certainly don't look like that - mine are messy with layers upon layers of mediocre anatomy. I should stick with writing.

Although, even as a writer (even as a fanfic writer of all things - being a law student doesn't really lend itself to writing up original fiction), I don't escape the idiotic comments. The best are the ones that inform me what has been changed in the original series long after I have written something. (ex: "So-and-so is DEAD! Why is she HERE?" "Because she wasn't dead six months ago and alas, I'm not psychic.") Often, I get ones that ask me what I've just mentioned in my author's comments. It's a burden but frankly, I just ignore them now. :D

Just wait until you get something downright cruel - then you'll almost wish for the idiotic ones. :o

I've never used one, but my aprents both bought each other one for Christmas... :XD:. Tehy met each other in the dairies section and Dad had to pretend he wasn't looking at the Moleskines, while mum had to hide her shopping bag

Meh, the failure to read descriptions is a common plague on here - although if one is going to comment, I would think they should take the time...
And it's okay, we all know you didn't draw any of those pictures.

I just found my latest favourite..[link]

I have one! I had to rush to my secret hidden bookshelf in the closet, found this little beast nestled in with the miniature books...haven't used it up yet but there are some melodramatic scrawls apparently written in a cafe after strong shot of espresso...and some frenzied designs for drawings never completed. I got excited when imagining these were actually forged in the skin of some tiny animal, but alas, only paper. Dig the elastic band though, and the rounded corners perfect for slipping in and out of pocket. You've inspired me to start carrying this around again...I loved the story of Bruce Chatwin finding out that his favourite notebook had been discontinued due to passing of the French company's owner...Mine has a possibly Utamaro geisha printed on the cover, peering down into a lit lantern...

I don't want to know what else happens with our art without we necessary knowing it. I went to Germany last year and found in a record store that one of my works had made it on a CD cover without me knowing anything about it!

Not that that's necessarily a bad thing; I'm very flattered. It's just that... I might have liked to have known of it or been asked beforehand... Is that hopelessly old-fashioned of me? :hmm:
