Artist's Comments
An artist's block, that is...
Try to see it from the dragon's perspective, perhaps? This is for everyone who endured my lament about an artist's block, but with a particular dedication to *junkauge (flying in from the top right corner as Sun Wukong, or 'Monkey' from Journey to the West of Chinese literature), whose suggestion for dealing with a block was to draw the wretched thing... This was begun a while ago. I didn't really know what I was doing with it. The dragon was simply an exercise in being absorbed in drawing something seemingly 'wrought', but which came easily without having to think much. It became a very small gathering of familiar figures rallying to see this block... I don't know - it isn't supposed to make sense. I drew the fairy in the bottom left corner last of all. My finest nib wants replacing and made a fair pig's ear of her, unfortunately, but there we are... Ink in large Moleskine sketchbook (130x210mm). ___________________________ I'm afraid I'm not quite back yet, in spite of what I'd hoped, so I apologise for the yet unanswered comments. I've read almost all of them at last though, so thank you all so much. V6 was treacherous when I posted my last journal entry about taking a break back in early July, and I've learned that quite a number of people were never notified of that entry at all. Oh, well... |

Sorry I never realised you were taking a break, or suffering a block - I didn't receive the journal entry you mention. When I get a block/the doldrums/whatever I sometimes find it helpful to experiment with other mediums or just splash ink or paint around with no aim in mind just playing like a child...this can help to relax the mind and help creativity to flow back again (though it does depend what has caused the block)...sometimes it's just a process of patience and waiting for the creative force to re-charge though this is difficult when one has commissions waiting....

Your ilustration strongly influenced my imagination - perfect detail on the dragon's wings and head. And the small characters around - each with a different expression.

There's a lane that leads to fairyland... it's just a breath away.
All I can do with a block is ruin it
