Train Ticket Deer by Himmapaan Train Ticket Deer by Himmapaan
Red deer stag (Cervus elaphus). Pencil, sepia powder and tinted charcoal on train ticket prepared with gesso, approximately 85 x 54mm. The full view is much larger than the original.

The ticket is from when I was staying with my friend, palaeontologist and marine reptile expert, Dr Adam Stuart Smith. Adam showed me around Wollaton Hall and Deer Park, presently rather famous for having served as Wayne Manor in the latest Batman film. Though I must say I’m much keener on the deer and the natural history collection myself.

What a brilliant use for at train ticket. I must try that. The sketch is beautifully detailed.

Beautiful! I collected my train tickets for ages thinking I should draw on them and never did - you've inspired me to get to it! :) Isn't Wollaton Hall great! I love the way the bird gallery has that Victorian cabinet of curiosities feel that's a combination of awe-inspiring and a bit creepy!

This is such a beautiful idea for retaining a special memory - I should give it a go the next time I'm on a memorable train journey!
