When in the height of youthful prime, And candour gently reigned, Then feared you not the march of Time, Possession you disdained.
How fulsome in existence chaste Were you content to dwell; And life's pursuits in restless haste Cast not their ugly spell.
Content without the irksome hand Of one who gathers flowers. Content in peaceful shades to stand Whilst claims were made in bowers.
Then came those hands, clear to discern Above the heady throng. How came you for those hands to yearn? To whom do you belong?
Why sigh you now, with faded mien, For hands which care you not? Regretting thus to be unseen, Regretting now your lot?
Regretting now the loss of time, And peace in disarray? The ravages of seasons' clime Upon your features prey.
Resign you now alone to fade, Your bloom o'ercast by care. Resign again to unseen shade. In vain do you despair.

I'm not a good photographer by any stretch. I'm painfully aware of being watched by exemplary photographers from among my friends list (you know who you are), and I can only hope you think not unkindly towards this rank amateur in possession of merely average equipment. The accompanying verses also belong to the literature category, but of course, DA does not allow for more than one.
A flower ungathered by human hands is often a metaphor for being unseen and unloved. It is certainly a frequent motif in Thai poetry, and, the more I think on it, it occurs elsewhere too (Mad Margaret in Gilbert and Sullivan's operetta Ruddigore, for instance, sings of a hidden violet, in contrast to the 'shameless' roses who are in no doubt of attracting attention).
A note on my use of the word 'candour' here. Aside from its well understood definition of the quality of frankness, openness and honesty, I'm also using it in its older, lesser known sense: that of ingenuousness and innocence.
The photo is gorgeous (from my amateur's piont of view)
The poem, I'm affraid, will take me few days to decrypt... but by one thing I'm sure right now - I love how it sounds. I love intermittent rhymes, they reminds me a heartbeat...

Take Your time, think a lot, think of everything You've got For You will still be here tomorrow, but Your dreams may not...
Wow, I'm in love with that poem! Great message and said so eloquently! I would love to hear more of your work. I confess I know little of photography myself, but my amateur eye says its beautiful.

Well, I like the photograph. The flower reminds me of a white bird in flight. The little insect that has snuck her way into the picture is cute as well.
As for the poem, I can't say too much here without worrying about embarassing you. If you want, I can send a note later.
Finally, for the most part, equipment doesn't really matter, it's knowing what it can do and how to use it that matters most. I spent a lot of time experimenting to learn the limitations of my camera and I also take many, many pictures just to find one appropriate enough to post. I also recommend learning how to use GIMP for any post-production color correcting and/or cropping that might be needed (cropping does wonders for most pictures).

The picture was indeed cropped, in fact. And I'm learning quite a bit more about my modest camera too - I certainly discovered more things about it on the trip this was taken. And yes, I took many more photographs which are no good.
Please feel free to send a note if you like - or simply post here, I don't mind. Unless you think it really private...
And thank you so much.

*cries* That poem is so beautiful...sorry, I'm being all sappy here. Bravo for a gorgeous photo and an equally lovely poem!

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 10 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
When it comes to community spirit, `Rushy is a shining example. From participating in devmeets, to providing positive encouragement to other artists, `Rushy can always be found demonstrating what it really takes to be a true deviant. It's without any hesitation that we are delighted to award the Deviousness Award for July 2009 to `RushyRead More

It won't be too hard, I don't think. Once it begins to make sense, it will seem like the simplest thing in the world.
