The Man and the Satyr by Himmapaan The Man and the Satyr by Himmapaan
Aesop's The Man and the Satyr.

Pen & ink and watercolour, Pencil, Gouache highlights.
297x420mm
Christmas card, 2005.

This was reduced onto A4 card (210x297mm) and folded into thirds, concertina-wise. I had a hundred copies printed (then proceeded to measure, score and fold the things myself!). The cards were sent to family, friends, my publishers, agent, curators, etc. I think I sent them all and kept one copy for myself. I didn't get more than a tenth that number in return though... :)

I remember reading a Chinese fairy tale similar to this when I was little about a man who was invited into the house of a God in disguise, but then thrown out for being wasteful and capricious in blowing on both his hands and his soup.

I dont understand why the Satyr was angry about the man using his breath for hot and for cold o.o

The man is supposed to represent people who say things that contradict their own statements without a second thought.

What's the moral?

The moral is that good people will not associate with someone who say one thing and then it's total opposite without a thought.

I never understood the moral of this fable. Why did the satyr even leave? I never got that..

Your work is so very charming and lovely. Had I received a card like this, it would be framed and hanging on my wall.

Delightful and enchanting. Even if you had received several hundred cards in return, none would have been as splendid as this.

So wonderful as always. :aww: I am totally surprised to find that this image is still bright and brilliant on LCD monitor (mine is CRT kind). It is just a hard chance to view such beautiful colors from traditional work. Do you have some tips to maintain the color quality of your image on LCD screen?

Love the progression, from the elegant and formal way they shake hands to the satyr walking off in a huff leaving soup-prints all over the carpet...
