The Enchanted Pig by Himmapaan The Enchanted Pig by Himmapaan
'The youngest daughter of this King will be married to a Pig'

Pen and ink and watercolour.

Illustration for The Enchanted Pig from Andrew Lang's The Red Fairy Book, published by The Folio Society, 2008.

File scanned from a proof. It is quite a fair bit darker than the original!

A variant on the Beauty and the Beast tale, as you can probably guess. I took a little license and drew a wild boar rather than a domesticated pig.

The dress is amazing and the subtly of colour is enchanting (rather appropriate considering it an illustration for a fairytale I suppose).

So I just wandered over to the folio society website to take a peek at the book it self and I have to say, of the collection of different colour fairy books I personally feel your illustrations are definitely the most appealing to me.

The Red Fairy Book is going on my birthday wishlist. I love fairytales but it's your illustrations that make me want to own it rather than just admire it :0 I should probably congratulate you on a job well done :D

You are Dulac reincarnated. I'm jealous. It's not the only the composition but you have all the subtle hints and blemishes of Dulac. I have such a hard line to my watercolor drawings. Did you say you do the watercolor first then do some line ink drawing? I am good (please check out my gallery) but I lack direction and probally some discipline. I would be much appreciative if you could critique a couple of my works and please don't be gentle, I seriously need help. Thank you.

This makes me yearn for the old fairy tale books with their washed out illustrations and their loving pen work....
