The Elephant's Child by Himmapaan The Elephant's Child by Himmapaan
...the Bi-Coloured-Python-Rock-Snake... said, 'Rash and inexperienced traveller, we will now seriously devote ourselves to a little high tension, because if we do not, it is my impression that yonder self-propelling man-of-war with the armour-plated upper deck... will permanently vitiate your future career.'

This is the way all Bi-Coloured-Python-Rock-Snakes always talk.

So he pulled, and the Elephant's Child pulled, and the Crocodile pulled...

I think I know where this is from. It's an old African folk tale of how the elephant's nose became so long. Am I close?

Very well done - almost too well.
Sad to say, but the image of the elephant's battle is very close to a real incident.

My mother read me Just So Stories when I was very young. My favorite was the Elephant's Child. Now I look at it and think "so the moral is, children, don't ask questions and shut up" but that doesn't take from the memory of having a mother that read to me.

Please accept this llama as a token of my appreciation
