Submission for :iconchildrensillustrator: club's July theme of 'Cows'.

Illustration to Aesop's The Dog in the Manger.
Ink and gouache.
134 x 214mm.

A dog lay in a manger, and, by his growling and snapping, prevented the cattle from eating the hay which had been provided for them. 'What a selfish beast,' said one of them to his companions; 'he cannot eat the hay himself, and yet refuses to allow those to eat who can.'

Well, I couldn't possibly resist drawing Brahman cattle (also known as zebu) now, could I? :D

I will be back more ' properly' soon, I think. Thank you for your kind wishes during this break.

I'm very fond of silhouettes, though this is the first I've been able to upload here. I'll get round to putting up some older ones eventually.

First off - :D

Second - this is really gorgeous. I used to have these picture books when I was a child - the Christmas story and then I think Easter too, where the illustrations were silhouettes. They were cute books but this has so much more detail and fluidity. (Does that make sense? LoL.) I love the little mouse and the red (err, yokes? reins? hmm) on the cattle. Fabulous!

Fabulous! It is the little touches of detail I love about your work...the color on the cow's collars, the spiderweb, the little mouse on the rope!
