The Coventry Carol, by Robert Croo.

Indian ink, gouache, acrylic gold.
297x420mm
Christmas card, 2006.

As with the card for the previous year [link] , a hundred copies of this were printed on A4 card. Each card was then concertina-folded into thirds.

The Coventry Carol is one of my favourite Christmas carols. I love its beautiful, mournful and unmistakeably Renaissance melody. Its profound sadness also appealed to me. Christmas is often a particularly wretched time for many.

*A side note: silhouettes are something I love creating and though I've done many, I've not had a chance to submit them here. There'll be a number of these in the near future.

The few colors cheer up the silhouettes I think.
Beautiful work as always.

Let us give thanks to The Builder, for He hath formed my hands with fingers. And behold, my fingers interlock like cogs on a gear. I am part of His unbeholdable machine, and therein lies my salvation.

I'm blown away by your ideas, execution and skill as always dear Niroot. This is an amazing piece of art, let alone Christmas card.
Now, I must try to find some sheet music and see if I can't tinker on my piano. I don't believe I've heard this carol before!

Your silhouettes are always so elegant, as is your calligraphy. The distinctly XVI fashion that the soldiers are wearing matches with the period of the song, that's a nice touch. The receivers of such cards are lucky ;)
