Artist's Comments

*I oughtn't to impose on how people add to their favourite collections, but if anyone adds this to their 'fan art' collection, I shall chain you to a rock to be at the mercy of Ceto, and have Perseus, Andromeda and Pegasus point and laugh ([link]).

I have nothing against fan art, but please distinguish between that and an illustrative response to a work of literature. :thanks:

Studies of the Bennet sisters from Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.
Pencil in Moleskine sketchbook, 2006.

Drawn when the Folio Society commissioned me to illustrate the book for them. I had the 1813 revision of the text in mind when drawing these, hence the hairstyle. This was changed to fit the late 1790s of the actual setting of the book for the final illustrations. Though I didn't actually get to draw all the sisters for those at any rate.

This is what I mean about my pencil work not reproducing too well. I can't draw any darker... :hmm:

Ai! I swear I will read this book! My friend is forcing me to read it! I just need to finish about five others first... ^^; Without knowing who these lovely young ladies are... all I can say is that they are lovely, and it is remarkable how different they look and how much character you've managed to convey with such apparently simple sketches...

Oh, and the disclaimer is the most hilarious thing I've seen all day. :D

Gorgeous, delicate.

:"DDDD I'm such a fan of Pride and Prejudice, and I love your interpretations of the sisters. I adore Lizzy! I think it shows her character so clearly. (Then again, so do all of your drawings of them. Haha!)

Um, as for the scanner not reproducing the pencil lines too well, I'm not sure if you've tried but you could adjust the contrast on PhotoShop or some such. =]

You've given Lydia and Kitty wonderful personalities. They would be people you'd like to meet, full of life and mischief.:)

I love the life you breath into your characters. Never get tired of looking at your work. Thanks for sharing, friend. :salute:

I love how Kitty and Lydia look mildly evil, but not intentionally so.

You've also put a lot of personality into Mary, which is not very common and very perceptive of you.
