Tarbosaurus Head Studies by Himmapaan Tarbosaurus Head Studies by Himmapaan
I am having internet problems and am borrowing my sister's old laptop. It has problems of its own and the connection is sporadic. I call being able to upload this a very real triumph.

You are urged to please ignore the abomination that is the first study at the top -- chiefly for the ill judged rendering of the feathers.* On the other hand, I'm told it might pass for a juvenile (but please overlook the dreadful feathers all the same ¬_¬).

There is a reason for the unimpressed Olorotitan, which will become clear by and by. But he was handy for reflecting my own thoughts here too.

Tyrannosaurids. Bah. You can have'em. ~_o

*By which I mean the actual drawing of the feathers (of just the top one, that is), not the idea of feathers itself.

How did you learn calligraphy? A class or just your own practice?

Just my own practice. ^_^ Although this is my actual writing rather than more 'formal' calligraphy, as in this piece or this, for instance.

That's your normal writing? I must say, that is the best handwriting I've seen a person have.

Thank you so much. Though sometimes not everyone finds it easy to read, whatever else it may be. ^^;

(Also, I should add: on this piece, the 'soliloquizing' notes on the page itself are my actual handwriting, whilst the ones in the Olorotitan's speech bubbles are more like a looser adaptation of Italics. That was just me trying to vary the texts)

I like that you've got the dewlap. Nice attention to detail (or a lucky coincidence).

I would like to know what tools you used for these? The technique is one which I would love to emulate.

Ah, yes, I'm sorry I forgot to mention it; I usually do. They are sepia ink and white Conté (with a little white gouache to strengthen the brighter whites) over an under-drawing of various earth red pencils (sanguine, terracotta, etc) on recycled paper (but any other toned papaer will do). Very simple. ^_^

Even though you might not be satisfied, this is 100 times better than anything I could draw. I love the detail! :)

:giggle: Even the work you're unhappy with is beautiful, as is the fact that you've a sense of humor about it. (And the expressive editorializing herbivore mocking the carnivore amuses me too.)

Love them all.

... could Olorotitan be like the little man inside some artists' heads, who keeps criticizing everything they do?

I love the black and white on neutral paper (of course I believe I detect some red as well in a couple of those). The crested commentary 'saurid is also quite amusing.

The 3/4 view in the bottom right corner is my favorite. I want that one blown up as a poster on my wall. :D ... Maybe with the laughing loro right next to it.
