Quatrain 74 by Himmapaan Quatrain 74 by Himmapaan
Quatrain LXXIV

Ah, Moon of my Delight who know'st no wane,
The Moon of Heav'n is rising once again:
How oft hereafter rising shall she look
Through this same Garden after me - in vain!

This is one of my own personal favourites from this set. This and the illustration for quatrain 21 (below) were enlarged on display panels at the [link](Rubáiyát exhibition at the British Library) (in the photography-forbidden area).

lllustration for the 150th anniversary edition of Edward FitzGerald's translation of the Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám, published by The Folio Society, in a limited edition of 1,000 copies (edition sold out): [link]

Watercolours and gouache highlights on Fabriano Artistico watercolour paper (the old kind which is no longer produced), 140lbs/300 gsm; 280 x 150mm (the full view is larger than the original).

Wow! It looks exactly like an illustration from one of my childhood books - Beauty and the Beast. Style is the same and the figure looks just as stunning. Great. :)

Ah, this is perfectly ethereal; I've become quite a fan of your delicately lifted fabrics and gouache sparkles.

Happy (belated) anniversary and birthday. May this year bring even more creativity and fulfillment than the last.

I was at the British Library two weeks ago and saw your art on the wall and was superbly excited, all "I know that artist!" Not to mention it's incredibly beautiful.

this is one of my favorites also, I think because of the tiny white flowers, the moon with the trees, and the blue-and-gold of the woman's dress.

I think I'm paying rather high a price for it, so perhaps it is better not to be envious... *sad smile*

Even the most beautiful combination of words can be an understatement when describing feelings for art, your piece is a adequate example of this phenomenon.

Oh my. That appears quite the ha-ha wall over which your dreamer is about to take a tumble!

In all seriousness, though, have I ever told you how much I enjoy your particular brand of rendering the background out of focus? It turns everything into something dreamy by its fading hints of texture that cannot possibly be there. The effect is to render your work quietly contemplative, whether that is the attitude of your subject or not.

Hmm... is that jasmine the gentle dreamer grasps?

Haha, fear not, there is no ha-ha intended there. Just a little rise, if you will. :giggle:

Thank you, Kirsti.

Ah, yes, I believe it is Jasmine. Though it may indeed be some other white blossom of your own choice. :giggle:

Phew! The poor dreamer would have lost all dignity, had it been otherwise.

In that case, it shall be jasmine to me, cherry to someone else, and possibly even plum to a third. What do you hold it to be, Niroot?

Gorgeous, simply gorgeous. I've been quite silent on your art for a while; a combination of it being easier to simply express my enjoyment through faving it, being unwilling to add another 'this is beautiful!' to the many already posted to each pic, and knowing from your journals of how overwhelming the number of comments you already was -- but this I refuse to let slip by without putting how much I love it into words.

That, and happy dA-anniversary (:

I think I might just have to go borrow the Rubáiyat next time I visit the local library. It won't be the Fitzgerald translation (I think the only available editions are in Swedish), but it will be something at least. I hadn't even heard of it before I saw your pictures, and now I am almost grossly interested :XD:

I hope the text can do your images justice, because they truly are marvellous.

Utterly beautiful. The moon is especially apt considering our gorgeous Wolf Moon of two nights ago. This one is hypnotic. And I love the way the figure seems utterly caught up in her own contemplations.

I still can't seem to comprehend how you can work so small... :noes: I'd likely have to pull out a magnifying glass to appreciate the beauty of this in full! :giggle:

Loving the palette in this one, too... I haven't seen a moon like that one in ages now.

Oh, and if you were still looking for help with your tutorial/walkthrough project, my offer still stands. Unless you've found some other way, then that's cool, too.

Oh, and happy second dA anniversary! My first year was on the 13th of this month. :D
