One Christmas several years ago, I began writing a nonsensical murder mystery quite out of the blue. I suppose it was something like an affectionate parody of Agatha Christie; except that it was full of aristocratic pigeons...
Yes, it is excessively silly, as many watchers have doubtless come to expect. But after all, I have to conjure up these trivial soufflés to counteract the sad truth of my unhappy existence somehow.
I never did finish the story and have long since mislaid what there was of the manuscript. Just as well. During a small tidy-up, I've unearthed a few sketches I made of some of the principal characters, and this was the most complete of the small set. In fact, it was because I wanted the chance to draw some very extravagant or unusual breeds of fancy pigeons that the story was conceived at all. I forget how long ago this was now, but it was at some point between 2003-05.
Operetta buffs may enjoy my purloining of the names of this pair (who are lovers, as though you hadn't guessed) from Johann Strauss II's Die Fledermaus.
Hehe. Most interesting pigeons I've seen in a long time! I love how Miss Rosalinde's feathers come down like a gown, and his expression of devotion. And I have to say that the story is definitely not one that you'd normally find on any bookshelf - very intriguing, and perfect for drawing lovely birds.
I love these! But then I have a thing for pigeons ever since we did a science/art project for work about change over time, that had to do with pigeons.
I can't imagine the murder mystery novel with pigeon characters but, then again, I'm sure it'd be an awesome and interesting read, both, for the subject and because you wrote it
I certainly hope you write something, if not that novel, maybe something else, like short stories or thoughts. I'm quite certain you have the sensibility for writing
Oh, how I love pigeons... I know just a bit about the various breeds (for instance, I recognized what these two were pretty quickly) but I also like spotting strange patterns and color morphs while out in the city. I particularly enjoy seeing the red ones.
