*Update; June 30th, 2009: file replaced.

I got the originals of my Pride and Prejudice illustrations back at last! So here is a better, larger file, for those who wished to see it. Please forgive any oddities, as this is of course from over two years ago. There are things I would (and could) do better now. It's reassuring to see that one has evolved a little, even after a short time. On the other hand, it can also be a little embarrassing, haha... Having said that, I am, on the whole, still fairly pleased with this one.

Enjoy (or not :D).

'Miss Eliza, let me persuade you to follow my example and take a turn about the room'

Caroline Bingley and Elizabeth Bennet (with Darcy in the background).

Illustration for Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, published by The Folio Society, 2007. [link]

Pen & Ink and watercolour.

Pride and Prejudice was first written in 1797 (before Austen revised her manuscript in 1813), and the action was probably originally envisioned to take place around 1795/6. Although waistlines were beginning to rise then, this was still considerably before they had become the high Empire line most of us associate with Austen. Of course, they had already become fashionable among the wealthy, such as Caroline Bingley here.

Thank you so much. :thanks: This was a year ago now - I'm not entirely sure I dare look at the original - but it's not too terrible, I suppose. :giggle:

I'm not sure what I love more about this - that its one of my favorite moments, or the the lines and colors of Elizabeth Bennet and Caroline Bingley. :)

Once again, you're too cool. 8D

Beautiful!
You know, I never really thought about the dates and fashions. Now BBC HAS to make another amazing movie based on P&;P just to get the costumes right!
(Because any excuse for a good adaptation of P&;P is a good excuse.) ;)
