Marianne Detail by Himmapaan Marianne Detail by Himmapaan
I have just been sent the first piece of promotion for the Bicentenary edition of Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility which I illustrated for Palazzo Editions, so I thought I might share it, together with this peek of Marianne which they used. This illustration isn't one of my better efforts for the book, but it's tolerable enough for me not to hate it entirely.

Usual caveat, please note: illustration, not 'Fan art'. I have a paperweight and I will throw it. :shakefish:

Beautiful piece as usual! Your art really affects me. Like now, it motivates me to practice and draw. Bless you. Oh and... NOT Fan-art. Noted. ;)

Lovely colors and detail in the drawing. Did you use watercolors and/or Photoshop? (Sorry if that is a dumb question. I've never used Photoshop.) :-)

Watercolours with a few gouache highlights. ^_^ I've never used Photoshop or any other digital media either -- I'm afraid I don't know how.

Beautiful, as all of you Austen pieces are. Might I ask what media you used for this piece?

I love how the curls in Marianne's hair are echoed by the feathers and the decoration on the walls. The fabric of her dress is beautiful.

The detail! It's amusing this is merely tolerable to you whilst if I did this I wouldn't stop throwing it in everyones face. Oh well. Interesting technique. Is that pencil first, water colour second and then a little black ink in certain areas? Have I cracked the Niroot code?

It's hard to love your own work, I can relate to that. As long as your audience likes it right? ;)

What it means is that I could care no less . Meaning not at all . In reality I do hope that those who read that type of book enjoy her books . I know my wife does . What I thought people were going to think was that I didn't like female authors . Which is not the case either .

*Clutches paperweight*

It's not my day, is it? First someone I have never met or spoken to insults me for having low self esteem (go figure), then another tries to deliberately provoke my ire... ;)

I'm not trying to insult you, take it as a slap of common sense. I know it's really hard to separate yourself from your work, but if you ever do you'll understand that you need never worry about the quality of YOUR work. I mean seriously, you're probably one of the best illustrators working today, and you deserve to treat yourself better. Sure we all have work we aren't absolutely thrilled with, but it's no reason to have such melancholy tones. And Thanks for the Favs by the way! :salute:

Can I say just how much I adore your work and appreciate your meticulous research? It's so rare to see illustrations so thoroughly researched; able to present the proper look, style, and cut of garments. Something as simple as the back seams in her gown just add to the enchantment of the whole piece!
