Marabou Stork Sketch by Himmapaan Marabou Stork Sketch by Himmapaan
Trying out my new Stillman & Birn sketchbook (from the Gamma series) with this sketch of a Marabou stork. I foolishly misspelled its name, as you see.

Brown and graphite pencils, approximately 15.2 x 16cm.

I am never going to understand how you manage to get a texture that is somehow soft and PRECISE at the same time. So I will just sit and continue to stare! :D

Maribou sounds like a lovely name for a Marabou :)

It reminds me of an old lady, who used to live on the floor above me. She was very skinny and tall and she had a long nose, tousled, thin hair and bulging green eyes.

It also reminds me of Leonardo's sketches. (the details, the colors)

Perhaps I should create a marabou stork character with that name. ^^

Thank you so much. You're the second person to make the da Vinci comment about this drawing.

I love the way you manage to catch such wonderful textures in your drawings and sketches!  I want to pet all his fluffies.

I'd probably lose an eye but WORTH IT.

The tooth on this paper is just lovely.

The friend I drew this for said a similar thing: 'It would probably eat me, but worth it'. :XD:

I'm going to have to try and nab one of those sketchbooks myself... if only they weren't so damn pricey!  Oh the life of an artist X(

And to be honest I think my reaction would be the same... especially if it were some form of oviraptorid.  Damn beakysauruses.

So much character in what would be considered a "simple" sketch. The brown and graphite do indeed give a great feeling of form and realism in the textures and shadows. I've been considering getting that exact type of sketchbook for a while now, amusingly.
