The Kinnaree (กินนรี ) is a creature from Thai mythology, one of a myriad of fantastic creatures of the Himmapaan forest. She is a half woman, half bird, (or 'swan' {หงส์/หงษ์ (hong) of mythology rather than the Cygnus of natural history}) whose upper half is a woman's torso, but whose lower half ends in a bird's legs. She also has a pair of wings. Occasionally, however, she is depicted with human legs, as here. She was drawn very much with the strong historical tradition of Thai line art in mind - hence the stylized ornamental features such as her wings and tail.

A pop-up card of the kinnaree, with the bird lower half, can be seen here: [link]
