When Jane and Elizabeth were alone...
Illustration for Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, published by The Folio Society, 2007. Pen & Ink and watercolour. Pride and Prejudice was first written in 1797 (before its revision in 1813), and the action was probably originally envisioned to take place around 1795/6. Although waistlines were beginning to rise then, this was still considerably before they had become the high Empire line most of us associate with Austen. I stumbled upon this and the other Pride and Prejudice illustrations among my picture files and thought I may as well upload them for now. I do mean to change them for better ones at a larger size when that becomes possible. For the moment I do apologize that they're so small. |
