Himmapaan as Diplodocus by Himmapaan Himmapaan as Diplodocus by Himmapaan
Part of a series of saurian 'portraits' of some members of the Dinosaur Toy Forum. This one is yours truly.

I'm tall and thin, extremely slow, utterly dim-witted, peace-loving and at pains to avoid conflict; and because I love sauropods, if I were a dinosaur, I would be Diplodocus.

Brown ink, sketchbook spread; 261 x 210mm.

Well, I'd prefer to be a Brachiosaurus or Spinosaurus, but I'd probably end up being some titanosaur. Andesaurus perhaps.

A different type of Diplodocus? Do you mean a different genus of diplodocid or did you have something else in mind altogether? ^_^

The stegosaurus seemingly isn't so grasping modern stuff, so he's like "Whats teeeee?"

Do you like tea too? I do, I practically live on it, a guilty pleasure if you will. I used to love sauropods when I was younger, I was obsessed with dinosaurs...
This is a really amazing piece of work, very realistic, except for the talking dinosaurs, maybe.

(And I have no idea why you would call yourself dim-witted, with your intelligence, erudition and creativity.)

I absolutely love this drawing! Wow! Such a whimsical and amusing and gentle scene.

You know, the first thing that came to mind when I saw this was the wonderful Dinotopia books by James Gurney.

I also appreciate the effort you've clearly put in to portraying both dinosaurs realistically, from the iguana-like spines to the half-moon hands to the staggered plates. A beautiful job!

P.S. How noble you look as a Diplodocus. ;) As for me, my dinosaur of choice would be Utahraptor.

I always identified most with the Stegosaurus, even as a child. I am large, but not too large, defensive, and when sorely provoked I can be a real pain. So yes, tea? Excellent.

Tea is readily offered to anyone! You needn't be a Stegosaurus to share it. :D But I'm sure you're 'cool' enough to be anything you like. ^_^

I loove your work. Leaves me in awe every time. Forgive my silly question and my lack of vocabulary, but do you used any reference at all on this one? And what tool or pen do you use with your brown ink? I haven't found anything that can draw such tiny details.
You're inspiring, I love it!

Tall, thin, slow, conflict-avoidant; I identify completely. Slow-witted? Nevah. I must dispute with you. Not with the kind of artistic talent I see displayed. I would express it in terms of marching to a different drummer. Or reflective; pensive; more given to philosophical rumination than snap decisions. Not particularly good for multitasking, but it rocks for the making of art that is meant to be appreciated.

A sauropod serving tea; it’s very Narnia-ish. Or Hobbit-like. Lewis Carroll would also dig.

You are so kind once again. I think, if I flattered myself a little, all those things are indeed true, though it is also true that when it comes to the nitty-gritty of real life, I'm afraid I am undeniably dim and pretty useless.

But I am glad to know that you identify with some of those characteristics. :D

I'd love to have tea with dino!Niroot :) What kind of tea are you serving? I admit I'm most partial to jasmine. Not sure what kind of dinosaur I'd be. Tiny and quick, awkward and a loner? Certainly a carnivore; for some reason, I've been passionately but inexplicably Team Carnivore since I was a little kid.

You'd have been the gentle giant of Dinosaurs :) Huge but vegetarian and tranquil. Your self-description, however, seems unfair to me: I am sure you're tall and thin; also, almost certainly, peace-loving and conflict-avoider (does the term 'diplomatic' work better here?), but slow and dim-witted? I think not  Maybe deep in thought of higher-order things, which is easily mistaken for those aforementioned ones.

It's cool to see your own sauropodian depiction -and preference-. Since I was a child my favorite was the triceratops, still is ^_^

Ah, you're so kind as ever, Javier. But I'm afraid when it comes to real life, I am unmistakeably dim. :giggle: But I think 'diplomatic' is a fair description too.

It would be nice to think that my thoughts are often on higher things, but they melt away into insubstantial ones all too soon...

Perhaps you will draw yourself as a Triceratops one day? :giggle:

Hehehe! ;) One's self perception is often -unfortunately not always- clouded by a self deceit.

It depends much on the point of view: most people would think it a waste of time to think about explaining life, time, eternity or God, while others understand that, if one doesn't think beyond the daily life and needs, one can't excercise the mind properly and grow intellectually and/or spiritually. Just my thought.

Perhaps I will :) I'm in the mood for such things lately ;)
