Jane Austen's Emma. Sketchbook spread, 2006/7.

These sketches were made over two years ago when I was illustrating Jane Austen's Emma for the Folio Society, and were, in fact, instances in which the roughs were so much better than the final pieces. These sketches either never really made it to being translated into full illustrations, or they were seriously modified. For several reasons, both artistic and personal, the only illustration I did for this book which turned out well was this: All the others were utterly forgettable. I was sorely disappointed with myself.
