Apatosaurus by Himmapaan Apatosaurus by Himmapaan
Apatosaurus and youngster, drawn as a gift. The recipient requested no dermal spines, which I think I would rather have relished adding had I been drawing for myself. I'm afraid I'm not as happy with it as I could have been (insofar as I could be said to be 'happy' with any of my work, that is to say); perhaps the consciousness of drawing for somebody else or its more 'serious' nature (or both) had resulted in too tense an approach. At all events, it feels curiously lacking in spirit to me. But it and its surrounding circumstances played no small part in inspiring the silly (but deliciously so; come now, admit it :D) 'Aprontosaurus' which I submitted a short while ago.

The original is small (and is about a third of the full view size): 230 x 125mm. Here is a photograph of the youngling next to a penny (the same size as a U.S. cent): [link]

A very majestic depiction of my favorite dinosaur. Nice work, lots of neat detail in the skin and muscles.

I agree that spines would have made this even better - more whimsical, maybe would be the word? But still! It's beautifully drawn, and you have no reason to be anything be pleased with it. :)

Gorgeous drawing as always! Funny thing though, this is the first time I've ever seen sauropod dorsal spines be a point of contention for anybody. (I may have a comic in me about this...)

Perhaps not so much of the steampunk... :D

But whilst we're on the subject: An Airing was declined by #DeviantDinosaurs, whilst Aprontosaurus was accepted. Go figure. :giggle: I think it was the humans that repulsed them even if the steam engine was perfectly acceptable. :XD: I also have the sneaking suspicion that Aprontosaurus might also have qualified because it could be read as a critique on erroneous popular perception (even if my intention was nothing more than lighthearted silliness). If that was the case, then it would be so typical of dino nerds indulging in venting their fury upon the general ill-informed public -- and I know a good number of those. =P I'm being impertinent, of course, but I speak as a nerd too. I'm just not supercilious about it. =P
