Aaron's Dragon by Himmapaan Aaron's Dragon by Himmapaan
A small gift for *aaronpocock, and one of my first forays into this ACEO lark (my second piece, though the first to actually be completed).

Brown ink on 300gsm/140lb Arches hot-pressed watercolour paper, 3.5 x 2.5 inches (gasp! Dimensions in inches, as opposed to my customary milimetres!).

The full view is larger than the original, of course.

Tell me, where can one find such a fascinating creature? And how were you able to study it long enough to produce such a drawing without getting burned to cinders by its fire-breathing mother? Don't tell me this was not drawn from life. I'll never believe that.

I know it's pathetically female of me to say, but it's so cute!!!
The brown ink is an especially nice touch. I knew there was something different in the coloration, but didn't know what it was until you mentioned it. Nice little trick.

Oh gosh, if that isn't the cutest thing I've seen all day..... :aww: I've always envied the believability of your dragons... with their saurian features and all. :)

Are you using Higgins Calligraphy ink, or something a bit "sturdier?" I've been wanting to mess with ink for a few weeks now but have too many other thoughts to think. Maybe I'll manage something, anyways!

And lucky Aaron, too! :D :giggle:

Thank you, April! Your dragons are believeable, though; so no envy is warranted! :giggle: :D

I used something even less robust than Higgins in terms of the actual physical feel of the ink, but which the manufacturers promise are pretty near archival in terms of properties: Noodlers' fountain pen ink.

(Psst, there is one such drawing in the works for you, too)

Now I realize it's been some ages since I've made a real attempt at a dragon! :noes: I shall have to try again someday when the workload/project list is a bit shorter. :XD:

Noodler's! That is something I'm quite certain they don't sell in the states... Leastwise, not in this area! It sounds (and looks!) absolutely lovely, though!

( Ooooooooooooooohhhh! Now I'm super excited to see just what it is, but I'll be patient! :eager:  )

Oh, on the contrary, it is American made and is only available there. :giggle: I had to have it shipped over. :giggle:

(I wouldn't be too excited really, I may as well tell you it's another dragon; albeit a different one to this. But yes...^^;)

Really??? *gasp* Well, now I had better be on the lookout for that ink. Perhaps the retailers in my area just don't have it, heh.

(Why wouldn't I be excited???? *is even more excited, but patiently so!*) :eager:

well perhaps it wasn't intentional but the skull definitely shares characteristics with raptors as they are in the first 2 JP films Actual velociraptors were smaller and seemed to have skinnier, probably hairier heads.

:iconhimmapaan:
Himmapaan Featured By Owner Jul 23, 2010  Professional Traditional Artist
Yes, I know. :) The JP raptors had more in common with Deinonychus than with Velociraptors.

On the other hand, I think this dragon's head might resemble any generic (if unfeathered) dromeosaur. Though I was probably thinking more of an allosaur's head (minus lacrimal horns) myself whilst I was doing it; it's just much more compressed (it's only a baby, after all :D)... [link]
