Riding habit, c. 1810. Pencil, sketchbook page; approximately 21 x 29.7cm.
One for the history/ historical costume buffs, just to provide another punctuation from the many recent saurian things.
This drawing was actually made a few years ago (2006/7?). Referenced from photographs of an actual riding habit in the collection of the Kyoto Costume Institute. A chance occurrence reminded me of it, and as it's still tolerable enough, I thought I may as well post it, too. *Tries to refrain from shrugging*
Sigh, the compression is particularly bad on this one.
I love riding habits, their heavy folds are so elegant. There's a red one in the BBC's Wives and Daughters that I covet despite not being at all a horsy person. But this one is lovely as well, and the details of the fabric are beautiful. I like the hat, too; I was never fond of the straight brim of the one on the model.
